The Velebit uprising in 1932 – the resistance of the Croatian people to a dictatorship

About the project

Basic information

Project description

The Velebit (Lički, Brušanski) uprising of 1932 is one of the significant events in Lika and Croatian history that has not been sufficiently scientifically researched or objectively presented to this day. Using scientific methods of research and documentation of a historical event, an effort will be made for the first time in Croatian historiography to provide a clear chronological account of the causes, the course of events, and the consequences of the Velebit Uprising of 1932. This project, with the use of previously known knowledge as well as a large number of unpublished archival and newspaper sources from domestic and foreign archives, the goal is a scientific publication. Although the content will be of a scientific nature, it will also include testimonies and memories of the events of 1932. The authors of the planned scientific collection are eminent historians who deal with political and social issues from contemporary Croatian history in their scientific work. The project is in line with the Institute’s research topics, and its implementation will bring special value to the Regional Center in Gospić, whose employees have been dealing with numerous topics important to the local community for many years. This project will encourage the transfer of scientific research knowledge at the local level as part of the research priority Culture and Identities.
