Personal Data Protection

The purpose of personal data protection is to protect private life and other human rights and fundamental freedoms in the collection, processing and use of personal data.

The protection of personal data in the Republic of Croatia is ensured to every natural person regardless of citizenship and residence and regardless of race, skin colour, sex, language, religion, political or other belief, national or social origin, property, birth, education, social status or other characteristics.

The protection of personal data in the Republic of Croatia and the supervision of the collection, processing and use of personal data in the Republic of Croatia are regulated by Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and the Law on the Implementation of the General Regulation (Official Gazette 42/18). This repeals Directive 95/46/EC.

Regulations

The Personal Data Protection Officer -  tasks

  • Ensure the legality of the processing of personal data and other regulations governing the processing of personal data
  • Warn the controller of the personal data file of the necessity of applying the data protection regulations in cases of planning and actions that may have an impact on privacy issues and the protection of personal data
  • Inform all persons employed in the processing of personal data of their legal obligations for the purpose of protecting personal data
  • Ensure the fulfillment of obligations under the Personal Data Protection Act
  • Enable the exercise of the rights of data subjects under the Personal Data Protection Act
  • Cooperate with the Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP) in relation to the implementation of supervision over the processing of personal data
  • He shall be obliged to maintain the confidentiality of all information and data that he learns in the performance of his duties. This obligation shall continue even after the termination of the officer’s duties.
