PILAR – The Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities is a multidisciplinary journal publishing papers in the field of social sciences and humanities. Since its launch in 2006, its main goal has been to provide a broader and more comprehensive approach to the study of Ivo Pilar – the Croatian politician, lawyer, publicist, sociologist, and historian, after whom the journal’s publisher, the Pilar Institute, has been named since 1997.

Today, this purpose is reflected in the journal’s promotion of “Pilar themes”, i.e., in the publication of papers addressing identity, modernisation, and Europeanisation from the perspective of relevant scientific disciplines.

The journal was initially published biannually, and from 2021 it has been published annually. Reviews of scientific papers published in the journal are double-blind and predominantly domestic. The journal’s content is available in open access on the website of the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences and on the Portal of Croatian Scientific and Professional Journals Hrčak, where the journal has been present since 2011.

By this, we primarily mean the effort to ensure that articles published in this journal do not involve plagiarism, i.e., the appropriation of the results of someone else’s work, or the falsification of research results. The mutual anonymity of authors and reviewers ensures objectivity and impartiality in the assessment of the work. He consults with his editorial board in this regard, and in doing so, he must not be guided by religious, national, racial or political prejudices.
