Representatives of the Institute at the commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of the Roma Victims of Genocide; Uštica, 02/08/2026
On Sunday, 2 August 2026, the International Day of Remembrance of the Roma Victims of Genocide (Samudaripen) was commemorated at the Roma Memorial Cemetery in Uštica. The commemoration was attended by prof. Željko Holjevac, PhD, director of the Pilar Institute, and Ljiljana Dobrovšak, PhD, deputy director of the Pilar Institute as representatives of the Institute
On this occasion, the Park of Peace and Friendship, Roma Amare, Amale, was officially inaugurated. It is important to note that the commemoration in Uštica has been held annually since August 2012 as a day of remembrance for the Roma victims of the “Gypsy Family Camp” at Auschwitz, where approximately 4,300 Roma were murdered on 2 August 1944.
On the same day, Danijel Vojak, PhD, served as the expert commentator during the live television broadcast of the Uštica commemoration, which was aired on the Fourth Channel of Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT).
