As a strong supporter of inter-religious relations, dialogue and co-operation, His Holiness Aram I has played a significant part in promoting common values, mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence among religions. For many years he has regularly lectured on armenological, theological, and ecumenical subjects at the Armenian Seminary and Haigazian University in Beirut. He has also given numerous public lectures in various universities, academic and cultural centers, and at public events and international gatherings.
In a world in constant and radical change, the Armenian Church should not remain a museum of spiritual heritage; nor should it remain imprisoned in a petrified institutionalism. It is called to respond, in faithfulness to the core values of the Gospel, to the expectation of its people and to the challenges of the present-day world.
Aram I
“In one place the reader finds a concise overview of Armenian spirituality, receives basic information about the history and spirituality, but also about the present moment of a martyred Christian people. It should be emphasized that His Holiness Aram I is trying to establish the seat of the Armenian Church in Sis (today’s city of Kozan, Turkey), where the previous seat, like all the other churches of his Catholicate in Turkey, has been destroyed. His Holiness Aram I is the ecclesiastical head of the remnant of his people who survived the pogroms in Turkey: death marches, concentration camps, the battle of Musa Dagh, and a series of massacres. The remnant of the Armenians of Cilicia is a flock governed by Aram I, who is not only the ecclesiastical head but also the ethnarch of his people in Lebanon.”
