DaIly STRESS in late adolescence and emerging adulthood

About the project

Basic information

Project description

Numerous studies provide evidence of the important role of stress in the development of various mental health problems, with adolescence and emerging adulthood being a crucial period for the emergence of these adversities. Although previous research has identified some situational and dispositional determinants of stress, studies that have simultaneously considered their joint contribution are relatively rare. The main goal of this project is to provide information about the mechanisms through which subjective (everyday) stress is translated into psychopathological reactions. To identify and elucidate the mechanisms of influence, we will investigate the role of numerous situational and dispositional factors at the daily micro level. The project will consist of three phases, the first of which will include a lexical analysis of stressful situations and the creation and validation of an instrument for their measurement. In the second phase we will carry out the adaptation and validation of instruments intended to measure states that are expected to be related to daily stress. In the third phase, the main research is planned, in which daily stress, anxiety and depression will be examined through an intensive longitudinal design. Finally the possibility of predicting and explaining those psychopathological states with dispositional characteristics, perception of the situation and other psychological states will be examined. The findings will shed additional light on mechanisms through which dispositional and situational factors affect subjective stress and stress-induced adverse mental health conditions.
