Survey research on travel habits of residents of Bjelovar-Bilogora County

Research project Survey research on the travel habits of residents of Bjelovar-Bilogora County was carried out as part of the development of the Master Plan of the transport system of Bjelovar-Bilogora County. An international consortium was chosen for the creation of that plan in a public tender, and the Pilar Institute, together with domestic partners, the company UM and UM and the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb, also participated in the project with renowned foreign business entities PNZ svetovanje projektrijanje (Slovenia) and PTV Transport Consult (Germany). ). At the same time, the Pilar Institute was engaged in the implementation of two activities in which data were collected through surveys. The first activity included a broader study of traffic habits, and the second study of specific characteristics of the use of public transport by residents of BBŽ. Research on travel habits had 2 main goals; the first was to gain insight into the characteristics of BBŽ residents’ personal journeys, and the second was to gain insight into their views on certain aspects of the local transport system. From the stated basic goals, specific goals were also derived, which include collecting information about daily activities, that is, about why, how, when and where they travel. The specific goals included the identification of the main local traffic problems as well as other information relevant to the development of a sustainable transport system. The main goal of the survey research on trips in public transport was to gain insight into the basic structure and characteristics of trips in bus and rail transport at the main departure-destination junctions in BBŽ. The specific objectives included the collection of data on the purpose of traveling by public transport, then on the characteristics of the journey to the station, as well as on the characteristics of the journey from exiting the public transport to the final destination, and on the frequency of using public transport. The data collected in those two surveys enabled an insight into spatial mobility patterns and the structure of travel needs in the County.
