The Formal Presentation of the monograph 5th Guards Brigade of the Croatian Army – Sokolovi; Vukovar, 27/10/2026
Organized by the Club of Wartime Commanders and Senior Officers of the Veterans Association of the 5th Guards Brigade “Sokolovi” (Falcons), the City of Vukovar, and the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences – Vukovar Regional center, the formal presentation of the monograph 5th Guards Brigade of the Croatian Army – Sokolovi was held on 27 October 2026 at the Vukovar City Museum
The monograph was presented in the presence of family members of fallen and missing Croatian defenders, representatives of veterans’ associations, and numerous distinguished guests and attendees. The presenters were Marko Kevo, MA in History, from the State Archives in Slavonski Brod; Dražen Živić, PhD, from the Vukovar Regional center of the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences and an external associate of the Expert Team; and Brigadier Mijo Kožić, editor of the monograph and head of the Expert Team responsible for its preparation. Following the welcoming addresses by the distinguished guests, including the Brigade’s wartime commander, Major General (Ret.) Ivan Kapular, the introductory address was delivered by Major General (Ret.) Živko Budimir, who served as the Brigade’s Chief of Staff during the Croatian Homeland War.
Dražen Živić, PhD, particularly emphasized the significance of the monograph in highlighting the importance of scholarly research based on available archival and other documentary materials, as well as the recollections of those who directly participated in the war. The monograph successfully combines scholarly, documentary, and memoir-based approaches, contributing to the “culture of remembrance” of the Brigade’s role in the defence of Croatia and of the Croatian Homeland War as a whole.
