Panel: Current Challenges of Demographic Sustainability of the Vukovar Urban Area; Vukovar, 28/04/2026
Organized by the Pilar Institute Regional Center in Vukovar, and as part of the official program of marking May 3rd – Vukovar City Day, another panel from the Scientific Tuesday Panel Discussion in Pilar was held at the Pilar Institute on April 28, 2026. The introductory lecture was given by Dražen Živić, PhD, on the topic “Current Challenges of Demographic Sustainability of the Vukovar Urban Area”

Among those present were the Mayor of Vukovar, Mr Marijan Pavliček; the President of the City Council, Mr Goran Bendra; the Director of the Vukovar City Museum, Ms Ivana Nadoski; the Director of the State Archives in Vukovar, Mr Petar Elez; representatives of Vukovar-Srijem County and the Joint Council of Municipalities; and other guests. The opening speech was given by Ivana Bendra, PhD, Head of the Vukovar Pilar Regional Centre.
In his lecture, Dr. Sc. Živić presented some of the results of the demographic part of the research project Transformation of Local Communities in the Republic of Croatia. Global Challenges and Development Potentials, funded by the European Union (Next GenerationEU). The panel was also organized to mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Pilar Institute and the 20th anniversary of the operation of the Regional Center in Vukovar. By the end of 2026, the Regional Center will organize several public scientific events to mark these significant anniversaries of the work of the Pilar Institute.
