Results of the VETFIT project published on the portal srednja.hr; 21/02/2026
For the portal srednja.hr, project leader Toni Babarović, PhD, and members of the research team Eta Krpanec, PhD, and Nensi Tomac commented on the results of the research conducted as part of the project Students’ Interests and Vocational High School Programs Fit: Measurement, Monitoring, Causes and Consequences of Congruence (VETFIT)
The presented findings show, among other things, that:
- most students state that they are satisfied with the school they enrolled in, but there is a gap between their professional interests and the selected program
- some students choose programs for which they have a relatively low interest already upon enrollment
- professional interests are relatively stable throughout secondary education
- students often do not have a sufficiently realistic idea of occupations before making a decision about enrollment
- grades from primary school strongly shape (and limit) choices.
The results indicate the importance of earlier and more systematic career guidance for students so that they can make more informed educational and professional decisions.
