Book Presentation: Internet Use in Early Adolescence by Katarina Perić Pavišić, PhD
Throughout October 2026, Katarina Perić Pavišić, PhD, Senior Assistant at the Pilar Institute, presented her book Internet Use in Early Adolescence: The Role of Parental Mediation at several venues, including the Public Library and Reading Room “Halubajska Zora” in Viškovo, the Poreč City Library, and the Viktor Žmegač City Library in Slatina
The book is based on her 2023 doctoral dissertation and presents research on problematic internet use among children in early adolescence, with a special emphasis on the role of the family environment and the various strategies parents use to protect children from potential online risks.
To make the research findings and key conclusions accessible to a broader audience, Katarina Perić Pavišić engaged visitors in a practical conversation about how children use the internet, what parental mediation entails, and what lessons from the study can be applied to everyday life.
Visitors were able to take home one of the concluding thoughts that summarizes the study’s results in a practical way: “Perhaps the goal is not to raise a child who cannot be threatened by the internet. Perhaps the goal is to raise a child who, when faced with something problematic online, will know what to do – and who to turn to.”
