Research Assistant Matija Krizmanić at the Affective Regimes of Normality and Discomfort Conference at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research; Zagreb, 28-30/09/2026
Research Assistant Matija Krizmanić, a member of the Changing Gender Relations in Croatia (NextGenderHR) project team, participated in the international conference Affective Regimes of Normality and Discomfort, held in Zagreb from September 28 to 30. The conference was organized by the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, the Academy of Dramatic Art, University of Zagreb, and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Udine, Italy
In his presentation titled “Discomfort Between Knowledge and Experience: Rethinking Discomfort as a Source of Queer Epistemology,” he introduced an interpretive framework for narratives in which affects of discomfort are centered as tools of knowledge – and thus as epistemologically generative forms of understanding. Based on interviews and fieldwork conducted for his doctoral dissertation, the presentation was delivered as part of the panel “Queer Feminist Critiques of Gender.”
