Book Promotion at the Pilar Institute: Croatians in Argentina by Carmen Verlichak Vrljičak; Zagreb, 26/10/2026
On 26 October 2026, a book promotion for Croatians in Argentina, written by Carmen Verlichak Vrljičak, was held at the Pilar Institute in Zagreb, within the framework of the scientific research project Dynamics and Challenges of Migration, Re-migration and Immigration in the Republic of Croatia – DinamiRH
The event opened with a welcome address by the Director of the Institute, Prof. Željko Holjevac, PhD. Rebeka Mesarić Žabčić, PhD, spoke about Croatian emigration to Argentina, outlining its historical development through three major waves of emigration and highlighting the importance of understanding migration processes when studying the Croatian diaspora and its ties to the homeland.
The book and its significance were discussed by the author, Carmen Verlichak Vrljičak , Ana Marija Dobronić, MSc, and Valerija Cerini, a return migrant from Argentina. Their contributions explored the experiences of Croatian emigrants, the preservation of Croatian identity, and the enduring connections between Croatian emigrants, their descendants, and their ancestral homeland.
The promotion provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of research on Croatian emigration to Argentina, where Croatian families and communities have preserved elements of their cultural heritage, collective memory, and sense of belonging across generations. Events of this kind contribute to a better understanding of Croatia’s migration history and create opportunities for further scientific, cultural, and institutional cooperation. One of the key values of such events lies in building bridges of cooperation between Croatia and the Croatian community in Argentina. Bringing together researchers, authors, return migrants, and members of the Croatian diaspora encourages the exchange of knowledge and experiences, supports the preservation of Croatian heritage, and strengthens ties between Croatia and its emigrants and their descendants. The book promotion also reaffirmed the importance of the DinamiRH project in studying emigration, return migration, and contemporary migration processes, while fostering dialogue and cooperation with Croatian communities around the world.
