Vinicije Lupis, PhD, Curates New Exhibition by Painter Eugen Varzić; Dubrovnik, 17/09/2026
On May 17, 2026, the exhibition Size Doesn’t Matter (Veličina nije bitna) by academic painter Eugen Varzić opened at the Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery in Dubrovnik; the exhibition was curated by Vinicije Lupis, PhD, Head of the Dubrovnik Regional Centre
Eugen Varzić graduated from the Painting Department of the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka in 1999. He has exhibited his work in thirty solo exhibitions and over one hundred group exhibitions, both in Croatia and abroad. He has received multiple awards for his work. He has led various art projects and collaborated on international visual arts projects. This exhibition presents over one hundred works in various formats from Varzić’s last three cycles.
Exhibition curator Vinicije Lupis, PhD, described Varzić as a painter of mystical realism with a distinctive artistic sensibility, noting that his portraits—through this lens of mystical realism—speak to the fears confronting the modern world. “Every painting and every portrait tells a story. All the troubles weighing on the artist have found their reflection in his world of portraits. This is not art designed merely to please; it is challenging and compels us to question. And therein lies its greatness,” Lupis stated.
