Renata Glavak Tkalić, PhD, and research assistant Bruno Škovrlj participated in the 11th International Conference on Behavioral Addictions, which was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from August 24th to 26th, 2026, organized by the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Addictions (ISSBA) and the Green Crescent
Bruno Škovrlj presented the paper entitled „Gaming Motivation and Problematic Gaming: A Moderating Role of Self-Esteem“, co-authored with Renata Glavak Tkalić, PhD. The results, based on a nationally representative sample, showed significant moderating effects of self-esteem on the associations between escapism and coping motives and problematic gaming. These findings highlight the importance of targeting self-esteem in the prevention and treatment of problematic gaming.
Two poster presentations were also presented: „Differential Predictors of Problematic Videogame and Social Media Use in a Nationally Representative Sample“ (Renata Glavak Tkalić, PhD, Bruno Škovrlj) showed that problematic gaming and problematic social media use are associated with different risk factors, highlighting the need for targeted prevention and intervention approaches, and „Problem Gambling and Wellbeing: A Moderating Role of Problematic Alcohol Use“ (Bruno Škovrlj, Renata Glavak Tkalić, PhD), showed that problematic alcohol use significantly exacerbates the negative association between problem gambling and subjective wellbeing, regardless of sex and age.
