MIC-Vis 2026: Research Assistant Bruno Škovrlj at the Mediterranean Islands Conference; Vis, 16–19/09/2026
At the international interdisciplinary conference MIC-Vis, organized by the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences and VERN University, held from 16 to 19 September 2026 on the island of Vis, Assistant Bruno Škovrlj presented a study conducted as part of the project Nightlife: A Study in Real and Virtual Contexts (REAL NIGHTS)
In the oral presentation entitled REAL NIGHTS VR – Immersive 360-degree Videos for the Assessment of Alcohol Craving: A Feasibility Study (co-authors: Renata Glavak Tkalić, PhD; Mara Šimunović, PhD; Desirée Colombo, PhD; Ines Sučić, PhD; Anja Wertag, PhD; Vicko Ćudina; and Katarina Perić Pavišić, PhD), the results of a feasibility study examining the applicability of the REAL NIGHTS VR intervention in the context of alcohol craving research were presented. REAL NIGHTS VR includes three immersive 360° virtual reality videos depicting different nightlife settings – a nightclub, a bar, and a house party.
Participants were exposed to one randomly selected REAL NIGHTS VR setting and assessed their level of alcohol craving, sense of presence in the virtual environment, and the occurrence of various adverse symptoms. They also evaluated the realism, user-friendliness, and overall quality of the REAL NIGHTS VR intervention. The results showed that participants experienced a satisfactory level of sense of presence in the virtual environment, while they rarely reported adverse symptoms. Participants rated the intervention as user-friendly, moderately to highly realistic and of good overall quality. The findings indicate that the REAL NIGHTS VR intervention is feasable for the forthcoming experimental study aimed at examining the effects of exposure to VR environments on alcohol craving.
Project Nightlife: A Study in Real and Virtual Context (REAL NIGHTS) is funded by the NextGenerationEU.
