For the first time, a two-day training workshop, “From the Office to the Top – Your Path to a New Level of Psychological Resilience,” was held for prison and penitentiary directors. It was organized by the Head of the Department for Psychological Support for Prison and Probation Officers within the Ministry of Justice, Administration and Digital Transformation, Zoran Šimić, Prof. of psychology, external associate of the PRISCLIM project
The workshop included indoor and outdoor education and training, with a special emphasis on practical exercises to manage stress and emotions during crises. The workshop was attended by the prison and penitentiary directors and the Acting Director General of the Directorate for the Prison System and Probation.
As part of the workshop, Ines Sučić, PhD, head of the PRISCLIM research project, presented results on the relationships between job demands and resources, stress, motivation, and personal and organizational outcomes of work in penal institutions. She emphasized the importance of increasing the autonomy of officers in certain aspects of work, providing timely and more detailed information before introducing changes, improving communication between officers and their superiors, and increasing the transparency of promotion criteria in order to increase motivation and reduce stress, burnout, and negative work outcomes among prison officers. Workshop participants also discussed effective ways to non-materially reward officers and proposals to increase psychological resilience and improve work in penal institutions.
