Caroline Hornstein Tomić, PhD, Senior Research Advisor at the Pilar Institute of Social Sciences, participated as scientific advisor at the international NECE Lab Financial and economic literacy as a civic competence, which was held on April 27 and 28, 2026 in Vienna, Austria
During this two-day event, which brought together experts in civic education, financial and economic literacy, and formal education, the following topics were addressed: the links between financial and economic literacy and civic engagement, the role of financial and economic literacy in understanding societal and economic processes, and ways to integrate these topics into school systems through practical teaching approaches and activities.
A particular emphasis was placed on the exchange of experiences between researchers, teachers, and practitioners, as well as on developing concrete examples and activities that can be applied in educational practice.
NECE Labs events are part of the Networking European Civic Education (NECE) platform, which brings together stakeholders from civil society, politics, academia, media, and culture for an interactive and interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and actions on civic education. The organizer of the NECE Lab event in Vienna is THE CIVICS Innovation Hub in cooperation with Znanje na djelu and Erste Financial Life Park (FLIP), supported by ERSTE Foundation.
