Dražen Živić, PhD, gave a lecture as part of the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Communist Terror in Vukovar – April 12, 1945; Vukovar, 13/04/2026
Organized by the Vukovar Branch of the Matrix Croatica, the Vukovar Regional Center of the Pilar Institute, the Vukovar Franciscan Monastery, the Vukovar Association of Germans and Austrians and the Vukovar Association of Hungarians, the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Communist Terror in Vukovar – April 12, 1945 was held on 13 April 2026
As part of the commemoration, Dražen Živić, PhD, gave a lecture at the St. Bono Pastoral Center entitled “We Will Never Forget Their Graves! The Suffering of Croats in the Post-World War II Period”. The welcoming speech was delivered by Lidija Miletić, president of the Vukovar Branch of the Matrix Croatica, and among the guests were Msgr. Josip Mrzljak, Bishop of Varaždin (retired), whose father was one of the 300 or so victims of Vukovar in April 1945, Fr. Tonio Vučemilović, Guardian of the Vukovar Franciscan Monastery, Ivana Bendra, PhD, Head of the Vukovar Regional Center, Prof. Petar Elez, Director of the State Archives in Vukovar, and others. Before the lecture, wreaths were laid and candles were lit at the Memorial Cross in front of the Church of St. Philip and James, where, after a prayer, Bishop Mrzljak led a solemn memorial mass for all those who died
