On March 23, 2026, in the fully filled large hall of the Croatian Army Hall “Brigadier Ivan Rebrina” in Osijek, the ceremonial presentation of the monograph 5th Guards Brigade of the Croatian Army Sokolovi was held. After the recent presentation in Vinkovci, this was the second “Slavonian” presentation because its domicile area was precisely Eastern Slavonia
The presentation was attended by family members of the fallen and deceased members of the Brigade, the envoy of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of Defense, the envoy of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of Croatian Veterans, other guests and wartime members of the Brigade’s Artillery-Missile Division. During the presentation, a film about the 5th Guards Brigade of the Croatian Army was shown.
After the greeting words, the monograph 5th Guards Brigade of the Croatian Army Sokolovi was presented by Dražen Živić, PhD, from the Vukovar Regional Center of the Pilar Institute, external associate of the Expert Team, and Brigadier Mijo Kožić, head of the Expert Team for the preparation of the monograph and its editor-in-chief. Dražen Živić, PhD, pointed out, among other things, that this is a book that, based on three years of work on thousands of documents, testimonies and records about the organization and war path of the 5th Guards Brigade, brings not only numerous scientific insights about the Brigade itself, but also about the Homeland War as a whole, thus making a great contribution to the culture of remembrance of the creation of a sovereign and democratic Croatian state and its defense in the war imposed on it. The monograph is also an invitation to continue researching and publishing documents and scientific analyses of the activities of other, previously unreported, units of the Croatian Army. The monograph is also a great thank you to the 89 members of the Brigade who died and passed away in the Homeland War.
After the presentation, the war commander of the 5th Guards Brigade of the Croatian Armed Forces, retired Major General Ivan Kapular, and the president of the War Commanders and Senior Officers Club of the Veterans Association of the 5th Guards Brigade Sokolovi, retired Major General Živko Budimir, presented the monograph to the family members of the fallen and deceased members of the Sokolovi.
