Research Assistants Marija Kostanić and Nensi Tomac at the 11th International Conference Empowering Potential for Community Prevention Activities; Osijek, 5-7/02/ 2026
At the 11th International Conference Strengthening Potential for Preventive Activities in the Community, held from 5 to 7 February 2026 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, research assistants Marija Kostanić and Nensi Tomac presented the WorkMobil and VETFIT projects, respectively, research on career changes and well-being, and research on the method of choosing vocational schools
The findings of the research From working conditions to career change intentions: career self-management and personal well-being as preventive mechanisms in young workers (authors: Marija Kostanić and Iva Šverko, PhD) point to:
- quality of working life as an important preventive point of intervention in labor migration and job abandonment
- the importance of encouraging responsibility, meaningful work, and quality relationships to strengthen career agency and well-being in the workplace.
Through the research How do students choose secondary vocational schools? Reasons for choosing a vocational school and career decision-making profiles (authors: Nensi Tomac, Iva Černja Rajter, PhD, Toni Babarović, PhD) we discovered:
- three career decision-making profiles – Independent and secure, Insecure and disengaged, Extremely independent and secure, but disengaged
- that interest in the program and employability are associated with greater readiness and independence, while parental influence, financial circumstances and poorer school performance are associated with greater disengagement and a lower level of independence in decision-making.
