At the 4th KOKOSS Conference with the topic Digital Age and Forms of Care in Different Contexts: Interdisciplinarity as a Resource, organized by the Croatian Chamber of Educational Rehabilitators, the Croatian Psychological Chamber, the Croatian Chamber of Psychotherapists, the Croatian Chamber of Social Pedagogues and the Croatian Chamber of Social Workers from 24 to 27 February 2026 in Šibenik, Research Assistant Bruno Škovrlj presented a paper on the topic “Problematic Use of Social Networks in the General Population of the Republic of Croatia”, prepared with Renata Glavak Tkalić, PhD

The presented paper was prepared as part of the project Substance Abuse in the General Population: 2023, conducted in cooperation with the Croatian Institute of Public Health. The paper describes the patterns of use of social networks and the prevalence of problematic use of social networks in the general population of the Republic of Croatia. The relationship between problematic social media use, social media habits, subjective well-being, self-liking and self-competence was also examined. The results obtained indicate the need for targeted interventions aimed at delaying the first use of social media, strengthening self-esteem and encouraging responsible use of social media.

The KOKOSS conference is held once a year, organized by the Coordination of Chambers within Social Welfare, and brings together experts in the fields of educational rehabilitation, psychology, psychotherapy, social pedagogy and social work.
