Assistant Matija Krizmanić Participates in the Annual Conference of the Croatian Ethnological Society in Zadar, May 21–23, 2025
Assistant Matija Krizmanić, a collaborator on the project “Changing Gender Relations in Croatia,” (NextGenderHR) took part in the Annual Conference of the Croatian Ethnological Society, held in Zadar from May 21 to 23, 2025. This year’s conference focused on the theme “The ‘Burden’ of the Field – Experiences and Skills in Zones of Ethnographic Knowledge,” within which Matija Krizmanić delivered a presentation titled “Thinking the Field of Engaged Ethnography – Generating or Discrediting Beyond the Field.”
The presentation was grounded in a rhizomatic reflection on fieldwork practices and the field as a site of agency, particularly in the context of politically sensitive research settings. Drawing on examples from ethnographic practice, it demonstrated how agency emerges within the research in/on the field, while also highlighting how the field itself acts upon both the research and the researcher. The presentation was followed by an engaging and productive discussion.
