Dr. sc. Sanja Špoljar Vržina održala je na međunarodnoj konferenciji Sociality, matter, and the imagination: re-creating anthropology – Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK and Commonwealth’s 2018 conference – ASA 2018 (University of Oxford, UK, 16-23. rujna 2018.) predavanja u dva panela – The disastrous equation of forced disaster consumerism – capitalism, communism, permanent crisis – a few vignettes from the Republic of Croatia (monoautorski) te From the Paradox of “Breathing Life” into Bodies in US-Based Anatomical Collections to the search of the bones of Croatia’s Defense War “missing” – a quest of a spiritual journey (u koautorstvu s prof. dr. sc. Rachel Watkins, American University Washington D.C., SAD). Sudjelovanje profesorice emerite Barbare Harrell-Bond bilo je planirano u okviru diskusija obaju predavanja, no akademska se zajednica od nje iznenadno s tugom oprostila 11. srpnja 2018. godine. te su oba predavanja bila posvećena poštovanoj učiteljici, dugogodišnjoj kolegici i dragoj prijateljici, profesorici emeriti Barbari Harrell-Bond. Uz njezinu obitelj iza nje ostaju generacije znanstvenika genealoški povezanih njezinim entuzijazmom i hrabrošću “otvaranja” novih znanstvenih, uobičajeno cenzuriranih i kontroverznih tema.

Dr. sc. Sanja Špoljar Vržina presented two lectures at the International Conference Sociality, matter, and the imagination: re-creating anthropology – Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK and Commonwealth’s 2018 conference – ASA 2018 (University of Oxford, UK, 16 -23 September 2018) entitled The disastrous equation of forced disaster consumerism – capitalism, communism, permanent crisis – a few vignettes from the Republic of Croatia and From the Paradox of “Breathing Life” into Bodies in US-Based Anatomical Collections to the search of the bones of Croatia’s Defense War “missing” – a quest of a spiritual journey (coauthored with prof. dr. sc. Rachel Watkins, American University Washington D.C., USA). It was planned that Emerita professor Barbara Harrell Bond joins the discussions of both papers, but her sudden passing on 11th July 2018 brought sadness to all in the academic community. Both papers are dedicated to the remembrance of a respected teacher from the early 90’s, long-time collaborator, colleague and dear friend, Emerita professor Barbara Harrell-Bond. Together with her family she leaves behind generations of scientists genealogically connected through her enthusiasm and courage in the “opening” of new scientific, usually censored and controversial themes.
