Terensko istraživanje u zemljama Beneluksa u sklopu projekta Hrvati u zemljama Beneluksa – migracije, integracija i identitet; 14.-22. 4. 2026.

U razdoblju od 14. do 22. travnja 2026. dr. sc. Rebeka Mesarić Žabčić, dr. sc. Monika Balija, dr. sc. Tamara Bodor i dr. sc. Krešimir Ivanda proveli su terensko istraživanje u zemljama Beneluksa (Belgija, Nizozemska i Luksemburg) u sklopu projekta Hrvati u zemljama Beneluksa – migracije, integracija i identitet. Tijekom boravka održani su sastanci i provedeni intervjui s predstavnicima hrvatske zajednice s ciljem prikupljanja uvida u iskustva migracija, integracije i očuvanja identiteta

Projekt ima za cilj pružiti cjelovit i interdisciplinaran uvid u dinamiku hrvatskih migracija prema zemljama Beneluksa, s posebnim naglaskom na motive iseljavanja, ulogu migrantskih mreža, procese integracije te očuvanje nacionalnog identiteta. Također se istražuju razlozi odabira ovih zemalja kao migracijskog odredišta, kao i namjere i potencijali povratne migracije u Hrvatsku.

U sklopu istraživanja analiziraju se statistički pokazatelji migracija, uključujući trendove i strukturu iseljenika prema dobi, spolu i zanimanju, s naglaskom na mlade i visokoobrazovane. Kvalitativni dio temelji se na polustrukturiranim intervjuima koji omogućuju dublje razumijevanje individualnih migracijskih iskustava, integracijskih procesa i osjećaja pripadnosti.

Rezultati istraživanja pridonijet će boljem razumijevanju povezanosti migracije, integracije i identiteta, kao i oblikovanju preporuka vezanih uz potencijal povratka hrvatskih iseljenika i njihov doprinos društvenom i gospodarskom razvoju Hrvatske.

Field research in the Benelux countries within the project Croats in the Benelux countries – migration, integration and identity; 14-22/04/2026

In the period from 14 to 22 April 2026, Rebeka Mesarić Žabčić, PhD, Monika Balija, PhD, Tamara Bodor, PhD and Krešimir Ivanda, PhD, conducted field research in the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) within the project Croats in the Benelux countries – migration, integration and identity. During their stay, meetings were held and interviews were conducted with representatives of the Croatian community, with the aim of gathering insight into the experiences of migration, integration and preservation of identity.

The project aims to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary insight into the dynamics of Croatian migration to the Benelux countries, with a special emphasis on the motives for emigration, the role of migrant networks, integration processes and the preservation of national identity. The reasons for choosing these countries as a migration destination, as well as the intentions and potential for return migration to Croatia, are also investigated.

The research analyses statistical indicators of migration, including trends and the structure of emigrants by age, gender and occupation, with an emphasis on young people and the highly educated. The qualitative part is based on semi-structured interviews that provide a deeper understanding of individual migration experiences, integration processes and feelings of belonging.

The research results will contribute to a better understanding of the connection between migration, integration and identity, as well as to the formulation of recommendations related to the potential for the return of Croatian emigrants and their contribution to the social and economic development of Croatia.
